A 38-year-old woman named Hajiya Tabawa Ado, recently deported from Saudi Arabia, tragically ended her life by jumping into a stream in Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
Reportedly, she took this drastic step due to continuous harassment from the agent who sponsored her trip to Saudi Arabia.
According to a local resident, she was sent to Saudi Arabia as a house help but faced unbearable maltreatment there.
After attempting to escape and getting deported back to Nigeria, the agent demanded repayment, which she couldn’t fulfill.
Confirming the incident, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) spokesman for Jigawa State, CSC Adamu Shehu, stated that the woman drowned in the Kafin Kainuwa stream on Christmas Day around 7:45 pm.
Her body was found the next day and taken to Ringim General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigations revealed she had been dealing with epilepsy for some years. She leaves behind a husband and children and has been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
