In a significant development, the Supreme Court has upheld Governor Peter Mbah’s election victory in Enugu State.

Justice Mohammed Garba, delivering the lead judgment, dismissed claims that Mbah lacked the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, categorizing them as mere allegations.

The court addressed all the issues raised in the appeal brought against the appellant, Chijioke Edeoga of the Labour Party, who contested the decision of the Court of Appeal that dismissed his case against the governor’s election.

The Lagos Division of the Appeal Court unanimously resolved the three issues presented against the appellant, Edeoga.

Justice Tani Hassan, heading the three-member panel, emphasized the appellant’s failure to substantiate claims that the respondent wasn’t qualified for the governorship election.

Regarding allegations of over-voting, Justice Hassan highlighted that the voters’ register wasn’t presented before the lower tribunal. She stressed that the absence of this register rendered the appeal inadmissible.
