Peter Obi, the presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, has left the main opposition platform, according to reports.
Mr Obi’s exit, coming on the eve of hotly-contested presidential primaries, came as the politician expressed fears he might be humiliated at the convention in Abuja.
He did not reveal his next platform right away.
The incident is expected to draw even more attention to the PDP primaries this weekend in Abuja, where Mr Obi was considered as a front-runner in a race that includes Atiku Abubakar, Nyesom Wike, Dele Momodu, Bukola Saraki, and other powerful figures.
A request for response from a PDP official was not immediately returned.
According to a person acquainted with the situation, Mr Obi was concerned that despite his great popularity and fame among ordinary Nigerians, he might not do well at the convention.
