Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), blaming the party’s persistent leadership turmoil at the national level for his decision.
In a resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Abogunde Ward 2 in Ede North Local Government, Adeleke announced his withdrawal from the party. He later confirmed the move in a social media post, attaching a copy of the letter.
Adeleke explained: “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.”
The governor expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it had given him, first as a Senator representing Osun West and later as Governor of Osun State. “I thank the party and its many members and supporters for the opportunities they have provided me,” he wrote.
His resignation comes amid deepening divisions within the PDP, with several governors—including those of Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, and Taraba—also reported to have left the party over similar concerns about unresolved national leadership disputes.
The timing of Adeleke’s exit has raised eyebrows, as it occurred less than 24 hours before the PDP’s scheduled governorship primary in Osun State.
Conflicting signals from party leaders about whether the primary would proceed further highlighted the crisis within the party.
Political observers note that Adeleke’s departure is a significant blow to the PDP, given his role as a sitting governor and one of the party’s most prominent figures in the South-West.
His resignation underscores the mounting challenges facing the opposition party as it struggles to maintain unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While Adeleke has not yet announced his next political move, his exit adds to speculation about possible realignments among opposition leaders in the coming months.
