One mrs. Precious Yusuf has been arrested by the federal capital territory [FCT] command of the Nigerian correctional service [NCoS] for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samson Duza, Yusuf was apprehended on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
She had entered the custodial center pretending to be a visitor there to see an inmate.
During a routine search conducted by the centers’ officers, items suspected to be Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs were discovered concealed in food packages inside a carton.
Yusuf admitted that she had been sent to deliver these drugs to an inmate.
Following the arrest, the FCT Command Controller, Ibrahim Usman, has instructed that Yusuf be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and legal action.
Controller Usman also issued a stern warning to drug traffickers, urging them to stop attempting to smuggle illegal substances into custodial centres under the pretense of visiting inmates.
He emphasized that the officers and staff at the custodial centres are vigilant and prepared to thwart such schemes.
Usman appealed to the public and concerned Nigerians to support the NCoS in its mission to maintain security and ensure that those held in custody are kept safely and securely.
