Some students at the Federal University of Ilorin have been abducted on their way to their designated orientation camp.
According to an X user who shared the information online, he revealed that the abductors are asking for a total sum of 5 million Naira to secure their release.
He also added that the student had left their institution, headed for Port Harcourt, where their orientation camp was situated but was kidnapped on the way.
At the time of this report, the families of the victims and other well-wishers have raised a total amount of 3 million Naira.
While some internet users expressed sympathy to the families of the victims, others called on the government to scrap the post-tertiary scheme following the rising rate at which Corps Members are kidnapped.
Below are some of the comments.
“I truly wish they do scrap it. Today’s stress was too much for me as a guardian talk more about my sis who has been in the registration process since 7 am. It is well.”
“If NYSC can’t be scrapped then everybody should be posted to their State of Origin.”
“I was thinking to myself about how people will be posted to the East and Northern” part of this country with all the insecurity on the road.
Kidnap is just inevitable.
