The Sokoto State Government has announced a new comprehensive strategy aimed at ending the menace of banditry across the region.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu unveiled the plan during a press briefing, stressing that the initiative combines enhanced security operations, community engagement, and intelligence-driven measures.
According to officials, the strategy will involve closer collaboration between security agencies, traditional rulers, and local vigilante groups to ensure coordinated action against criminal gangs.
The government also pledged increased investment in rural development projects to address the root causes of insecurity, including poverty and unemployment.
“We are determined to restore peace and protect the lives and property of our citizens,” the governor said, adding that the administration will not relent until banditry is completely crushed.
Residents have welcomed the move, though some expressed cautious optimism, noting that previous efforts had struggled to yield lasting results.
Security analysts say the success of the plan will depend on sustained funding, political will, and cooperation from communities most affected by bandit attacks.
