At least 13 people have died following a mining site collapse in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred last Saturday, and the deaths were confirmed by Dr. Joshua Riti, the Chairman of Bassa LGA, in a statement on Monday.
The collapsed site is located at the borders of Bassa, Jos South, and Jos North LGAs. According to Dr. Riti, seven of the victims were from Bassa LGA.
Most of the victims were young people, aged between 18 and 30, who were working at the site in search of a livelihood amid the country’s economic challenges.
Dr. Riti expressed his condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased, calling the incident tragic.
