The Federal Government announced a state of emergency in Nigeria’s health sector during the 64th National Council on Health, focusing on discussions about crucial health matters.
The event’s opening ceremony established the theme of building resilience and an inclusive healthcare system for a healthier Nigeria.
Dr. Muhammed Ali Pate, the coordinating minister for Health and Social Welfare, highlighted the dire condition of the nation’s health facilities, stressing the urgency for intervention.
Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State expressed enthusiasm about hosting the 64th National Council on Health.
He anticipated the participation of national and international stakeholders in health policy development, aiming to set agendas.
Oyebanji also praised the state’s significant achievements in the health sector in recent years.
Previously, the House of Representatives urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the sector and allocate substantial funds in the 2024 budget.
