The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kogi State Command has successfully dismantled a large-scale hemp cultivation operation, destroyed seven hectares of farms and apprehended three suspects.
The operation, which took place between August 9 and 15, targeted locations in Ikeja Forest and Maikeke Village, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area.
According to State Commander Umar Yahuza, three hectares of hemp farms were discovered in Ikeja Forest, where three suspects were arrested.
An additional four hectares were found in Maikeke Village, although the farm’s owner evaded capture.
The operation was made possible by intelligence gathered from local residents and is part of the NDLEA’s broader efforts to combat illicit drug activities in the Kogi East axis.
Commander Yahuza assured that the agency is actively pursuing the escaped suspect and remains committed to eradicating drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
He urged the public to support the NDLEA’s initiatives in combating the distribution and consumption of illegal drugs, which pose a significant threat to the well-being of young people in the community.
