In a surprising announcement on Sunday night, Nigerian music star, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba announced an agreement between himself and Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay-Idibia, to seek divorce after 13 years of marriage.
The news has sparked reactions on social media, with many netizens describing the situation as another testament that “Marriage is overrated.”
2Baba wrote in his post, “Hello to my beautiful people of all Federations.
Well, this thing I have to say is short but also long.
I and Annie Macaulay have been separated for a while now and currently filed for divorce.
I would grant a press release soon to say my story, not because it is anyone’s right to know about my personal life; but because I love my people, and I need them to know my innocence or offense. Stay blessed my people.
I love you all.”
However, the divorce announcement has triggered reactions across social media, with many Nigerians picking sides while showing support to both parties.
An X user, SanSa (@sansaa60), criticized 2Baba over the development, saying the music legend is coming with divorce “After turning her into this bitter version.”
FindingSolace (@lifeinsolace), another X user, wrote: “Even 2Face seems to be going through a lot emotionally and he cannot hide it anymore.
Time will tarry, but it will still come to light. Both of them just need healing.”
OG-Benzema (@OG_BENZEMA_), shared the same thoughts with FindingSolace, describing marriage as both physically and emotionally draining while offering advice on how to weather the storm.
“Divorce can be emotionally and physically draining. Make sure to prioritize self-care by eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and engaging in activities that bring you joy and relaxation,” the X user wrote.
Some Nigerians also believed the divorce was inevitable, the likes of Amb. Dr. Stephen O. Enike-Matthew (@sir_enike) said: “It’s long coming! It’s all about the foundation.”
