Recall that on Monday, Naijahitz reports that Nigeria’s biggest telecom company, MTN has started increasing its data prices after getting approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission in January.
Right now, only data plans are affected calls and SMS rates remain the same.
An MTN official, who didn’t want to be named, confirmed the changes on Tuesday, saying, “Yes, we’ve started updating our price lists, but it’s happening gradually, so not all plans have been adjusted yet.”
For example, the 1.5GB monthly plan that used to cost N1,000 has been replaced with a 1.8GB plan for N1,500.

Weird increment, right?
The NCC, through its spokesperson Reuben Muoka, said the price hike follows its rules under the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003.
Sadly, Telecom subscribers aren’t happy about it.
Their association has rejected the increase and is even threatening to take legal action.
