Following the cholera outbreak, which has resulted in 53 fatalities across 31 states, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has activated its National Cholera Emergency Operations Centre (EOC).

According to an update posted on its official platform on Monday, the NCDC conducted a dynamic risk assessment of the cholera epidemiological situation, identifying a high risk of increased transmission.

In response, the NCDC activated the National Cholera EOC to coordinate outbreak response efforts.

The report stated,

“As of June 24, 2024, there have been a total of 1,528 suspected cases and 53 deaths reported across 31 states.

In Ogun state, one death has occurred with 25 confirmed cases out of 35 suspected cases.” It emphasized that the Ogun state government has distributed cholera test kits and treatment supplies to all local government areas and designated treatment centers, with free treatment available at all government facilities.

The NCDC highlighted its collaboration with state authorities to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of cholera.
