A clash between two rival cult groups on Sunday claimed the life a young man identified as Nasiru in the ancient town of Owo, in Owo local government area of Ondo state.
Nasiru was reportedly killed in a cult clash which occurred barely a week after four people were shot dead in a cult war between two rival group in the town.
A source explained that two masked men suspected to be members of a rival group traced Nasiru to LA Gbanasa area of the town and shot him in the head.
He said the two mean left the scene immediately after ascertaining that the deceased had died.
Speaking on the development, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Funmi Odunlami, who confirmed the incident said the deceased was a notorious cult member in the town.

She said, ” The command can confirm the murder of one Nasir isiaka aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list.
“The police at A Division Owo today ( Sunday) received a distress call that someone was shot at LA , Gbanasa Area of Owo by two masked men.
“On getting to the scene, the police discovered that the deceased was a cultist who participated in the End SARS Protest, attacked Uso Division and and stole an AK 47 and bullet proof vest belonging to the police.
“He also participated in the killing of one Adedeji Rafiu aka P.A. His remains has been deposited at the morgue”.
Odunlami said the command had commenced investigation into his killing and to apprehend those behind his killing.

A Nigerian man Shamsu Umar has been ordered by A Shari’a court in Rigasa, Kaduna state to pay N20,000 as monthly feeding allowance for the upkeep of his children.
The judge, Malam Muhammad Adamu, gave the order after granting custody of their children to their mother, Zainab Sulaiman.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Muhammad also ordered Shamsu to continue taking care of their children’s education, health and clothing.
Earlier, Zainab had prayed the court to grant her custody of their two children, while compelling her estranged husband to take care of their needs.
She further asked the court to compel Shamsu to release their first child whom he had had in his custody for five weeks.

A student of the Department of Computer Science, Westland Polytechnic Ilobu (name withheld) was reportedly killed in a fresh crisis that broke out between Ifon and Ilobu on Thursday.
The deceased attackers were said to have shot him dead in the afternoon of the day at the Oke-Ima area of Ilobu in the Irepodun local government area of the state.
Pastor Olufemi Salako, National President, Ilobu-Asake Development Union, and Mr. Tairu Babatunde, Public Relations Officer Ilobu-Asake Development Union made this known in a statement in Osogbo.
The statement which accused people of Ifon-Osun community of being the perpetrators of the dastardly act, charged the state government, security agencies, and all other concerned Nigerians to act fast and address the situation in the area and at the same time fish out those responsible for the act out and bring them to book accordingly.
According to them, “The armed-to-the-teeth hoodlums stormed Ganga and Oke-Ima on Thursday morning around 11am and started shooting at every living and non-living object sighted by them and the student, whose identity is yet to be confirmed is one of their victims.
“For emphasis, Oke-Ima is less than two kilometers from the Palace of Olobu of Ilobu, and the community houses eminent personalities, including the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Lasun Yusuff.
This is to show that, the invaders knowingly entered into the inner streets of Ilobu.
“We again reiterate our call on the Osun State Government to immediately summon Olufon to answer for this round of unprovoked attacks, maiming, killings, and destruction of numerous properties that we have been experiencing in the last four days.
Our patience and endurance are being stretched to breaking point at this unchallenged bloodletting.”
Commenting on the accusation of being responsible for the act, the Secretary, Ifon-Orolu Progressive Union, Jide Akinyooye, described the allegations as untrue.
According to him, “Hoodlums from Ilobu had seized and destroyed three motorcycles belonging to residents of Ifon.
“They are not being truthful.
We didn’t go to their town.
Hoodlums sent from Ilobu today seized and destroyed three motorcycles belonging to the Ifon people.
Our people in Ifon didn’t go to Ilobu to attack anyone.
“Security agencies should look into the allegations to arrest the perpetrators.
For emphasis, I can tell you that we didn’t attack or shoot anyone.
Hoodlums from Ilobu should be asked questions regarding whatever incident that happened”.
Meanwhile, the Osun Police Command Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, could not be reached for comments at the time of filing in the report as all calls put across to her were not going through.

Remo constituency mourns the passing of honorable Mrs Otunba Adewunmi Oriyomi Ononuga, also known as (Ijaya).
Ijaya was a member of the House of Representatives representing Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, has passed away.
Onanuga, who served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, died following a brief illness.
This was confirmed in a tweet on the official X account of the House of Representatives, National Assembly on Wednesday night.
Onanuga who was born on December 2, 1965, was a politician and entrepreneur. She had held the position of Deputy Chief Whip in the Nigerian House of Representatives since 2023.

House of Representatives Mourns the Passing of Deputy Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga
The Independent Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has turned to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, following a significant 4.7% rise in the depot price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
The price surged from N907 per liter last Friday to N950 per liter.
The increase is linked to the rising cost of crude oil, which jumped to $80 per barrel this week, up from $73 per barrel the previous week.
In an interview with the IPMAN’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chinedu Ukadike, explained, “We have encouraged our members to buy from Dangote Refinery.
We cannot continue to depend on depot owners to supply our products, especially when we can purchase directly from the refinery.”
The minimum purchase requirement from the Dangote Refinery is two million liters at N909 per liter.
Marketers can also purchase from MRS, which distributes Dangote refinery petrol.
IPMAN’s National President, Alhaji Garima, added: “Our members still buy from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) at N899.50 per liter.
For now, the portal to purchase the product is closed. We are now buying a high volume of petrol through the Dangote/MRS arrangement because it is more affordable.”
He noted that while some marketers still buy from private depots, the Dangote arrangement offers the best pricing.
He cited MRS’s incentive program, which allows marketers purchasing petrol in Lagos and transporting it to Kano to pay N850 per liter, enabling some to sell at N935 per liter.
Garima further urged marketers to pool resources to buy directly from Dangote Refinery, emphasizing that with the end of petrol subsidies, prices are no longer fixed.

Timileyin Ajayi, A 32-year-old gospel singer has agreed to killing his alleged girlfriend, Salome Eleojo Adaidu, over alleged infidelity.
Timileyin Ajayi has been remanded in the custody of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Nasarawa State Police Command in Lafia after the murdering of the 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member.
Timileyin’s girlfriend [Salome Eleojo Adaidu] was serving at Nicon Insurance in Abuja and was killed during a visit to Ajayi’s residence in New Karshi, Karu Local Government Area, Nasarawa State.
The suspect was paraded at the Nasarawa State Police Command headquarters on Tuesday, alongside the knife and machetes allegedly used in the crime.
Appearing frail from injuries inflicted by a mob before his arrest, Ajayi confessed during an exclusive interview with our Channels that the killing was not premeditated.
“I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time, it’s not something I planned.
It happened on that day, and it happened.
Not that I have the plan in mind, she was cheating.
She hides most of the things from me most time.
I got to know from her phone.
I saw her chats with other guys on the phone, that was why I decided,” he said.
When asked if he regretted his actions, he said, “No.
”I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal, that is what I thought.
”If you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person.
You have to understand what that person is going through so that you can actually put yourself in the position that the person is going through, that is why I don’t have any regrets because we were actually compatible,” he explained.
However, Salome’s family disproved any claims of a relationship between her and the suspect.
Her elder sister, Esther Adaidu, described Ajayi as a stranger to the family and demanded justice.
“This so-called Timi guy, we don’t know him.
We have never seen him until we were called up to tell us that this guy murdered and dismembered our sister.
I demand and need justice to be served to this guy sitting over there because he is the one that murdered my sister and he confirmed it to me,” she said.
Nigerian government has increased the daily allowance of prisoners from N750 to N1,125, a step seen as a bid to improve the welfare of those in custody.
This development was announced by the acting comptroller General of the Nigeria Prisons Service [NPS] Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche who acknowledged the increment but emphasized the need for further improvements.
During his inaugural meeting with senior officers from the rank of controllers of prisons, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, acknowledged the increment but emphasized the need for further improvements.
“You will agree with me that inmates’ feeding rate has been graciously increased by Mr. President from N750 to N1,125 per inmate per day. While it is not yet ‘Uhuru,’ I will continue to press for improved rate,” he said.
To ensure proper implementation, Nwakuche revealed that monitoring teams from the NPS national headquarters had been deployed to oversee inmates’ feeding.
He urged senior officers to support the teams, describing the task as a national duty.
Nwakuche stressed that the Service existed to serve inmates and committed to prioritizing their welfare.
“Our efforts in reforming and rehabilitating inmates will also involve expanding classrooms, upscaling vocational skills centers, and fostering public-private partnerships to guarantee sustainability.
He added that vulnerable groups, including pregnant women, nursing mothers, babies, and physically challenged inmates, would receive special attention.
“Let me also reiterate here that the management of vulnerable persons in prisons, persons such as pregnant women, babies, nursing mothers, physically challenged etc., will be favorably taken care of,” he said.
Addressing prison overcrowding, Nwakuche outlined plans to address the challenge of prison overcrowding, disclosing that 48,932 inmates were awaiting trial as of January 6, 2025.
He also called on officers to collaborate with state chief judges, attorneys-general, and commissioners of police to address the backlog of cases.
He stated, “At present, our statistics as of Monday, January 6, 2025, showed that 48,932 inmates in custody are awaiting trial persons, ATPs.
“I intend to interface with the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Inspector General of Police, and other prosecuting agencies and critical stakeholders to fast track the trial of these inmates, especially those on non-bailable offences, such as armed robbery, murder and others that constitute over 60% of awaiting trial persons ATPs.
“Meanwhile, I want to urge you to relate with your state chief judges, attorneys-general, commissioners of police to further address the challenges,” he said.
Further, Nwakuche highlighted the potential of non-custodial measures and early release mechanisms in reducing the number of inmates.
“I implore you to reach out to the state chief judges, attorneys-general of your states, and other stakeholders to cash in on this; some of them need to be educated on this,” he urged.
Tackling security challenges, Nwakuche issued a stern warning to officers about prison security, emphasizing the importance of preventing escapes, riots, and attacks.
“The consequences of such grievous offences are severe and should be avoided at all costs. You have been warned.
Take this message to staff under you,” he stated.
He directed officers to resume quarterly inspections of prison facilities immediately and ensure regular weekly searches.
He also emphasized the need to report weak structures and other urgent issues requiring attention.
ABOUT 62 communities and 114,000 vulnerable people across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State have benefited from worthwhile micro-projects, enabling people to access basic services, social amenities and potable water supply to reduce high risk of infection from waterborne diseases.
The Acting General Manager, Ogun State Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA), Mr. Abdulrahaman Adelaja, revealed this while fielding questions from the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Kujore in Abeokuta.
Adelaja said the projects cut across education, health and water resources and were jointly funded by the federal and state governments, in collaboration with the World Bank, under the NG-CARES initiative, which began in 2021.
The acting manager explained that the projects were sectoral in nature, as each community remains the choice of their project through Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), in line with the NG-CARES laid down guidelines.
Adelaja said that “each community earned nothing less than N9 million for the execution of the micro-project in their various communities.”
The benefiting communities were Kajola in Ewekoro, Opo in Ifo, Soseri and Ajebo Town in Obafemi Owode, Itesi Ajabe in Odeda, Odo-Otun and Idomila in Ijebu Northeast, Ayepe in Odogbolu, and Irolu in Ikenne Local Government.
Others were Ayila and Alo in Ogun Waterside, Ipare in Remo North, Ewujomo and Soyinbo in Sagamu, Ado-Odo in Ado-Odo/Ota, Afintedo and Alakuta in Imeko-Afon, Ilujoda Iboro in Yewa North, Ilobi Erinja and Ipake in Yewa South, Terelu in Ijebu East, Ifelodun Olomore in Abeokuta North and Ojowo-Odo Isembadejo in Ijebu North, among others.
Drilling of motorised borehole was also carried out at Odo-Molasa Ilese in Ijebu East Local Governemnt Area by Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) and OG-CARES.

Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, said on Monday that the Federal Government had not found the antidote to the frequent collapse of the National Grid, a development that shut down power supply to the whole country many times in 2024.
He told senators in Abuja that there was no guarantee yet that the system would not continue to crash in 2025, so long as insecurity, vandalism, and poor infrastructure remained the major threats to the grid.
Adelabu, who appeared before the Senate Committee on Power in Abuja on Monday to defend the power sector budget for 2025, also disputed the widely quoted figure that the country’s national grid collapsed 12 times in 2024, representing at least one collapse in each of the 12 months of the year.
Faulting the figure, the minister said the grid collapsed “only eight times and not 12 as always reported.”
He said to achieve a permanent end to grid collapse would require concerted efforts, including tackling insecurity and the frequent vandalism of power infrastructure.
“There is no guarantee that there will be no more grid collapse. What we can do is to make sure that it is minimal and that after a collapse, we rectify it as quickly as possible,” the minister stated.
He told the committee that the ministry was working assiduously with security agencies to manage the situation and restore the system back to work as soon as another collapse occurred.
Speaking further, Adelabu said the ministry worked hard in 2024 to stabilize the grid, adding, “We had plans to stabilize the grid and other transmission infrastructure.
I am happy to also inform you that out of the eight collapses of the national grid that we experienced during 2024, five were full collapses, while three were actually partial collapses.
“Out of the five full collapses that we experienced, three of them were actually due to generation problems where we had issues with sudden reductions in generation compared to the power being taken up by the users, which affected the frequency imbalance on the grid, and the reason for this was not far-fetched.
“Out of the five, three were from generation, while two were from vandalism issues, and I don’t want to emphasize this vandalism issue because we are all aware of what happened.”
He disclosed that due to insecurity challenges and resistance by bandits, one of the main power supply lines to northern Nigeria, the Shiroro-Mando-Kaduna 330 kV line, had yet to be restored to supply power to some parts of the region.
The region currently relies on the Uwaji-Apir-Makurdi 330 kV line, already burdened by similar threats of vandalism, in the interim.
The minister said the cost of repairs was clearly beyond the budget of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which had so far sourced unbudgeted funds of up to N9 billion to make repairs.

The newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade is set to commence 21-day traditional rites as the new monarch of the ancient Yoruba town.
