A Nigerian man, name, Abilomu Adedoyin has been arrested for fleeing a filling station without paying for fuel worth fifty-eight thousand, five hundred and forty-eight naira (₦58,548.40) in Ado Ekiti state.
After filling up, he drove away without settling the bill, prompting the petrol attendant to chase after him.
The incident gained widespread attention on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), which ultimately led to his capture by the police.
Further investigation into the incident has revealed another interesting detail.
The vehicle used by Adedoyin to flee the filling station was purchased by him in 2023.
However, it was discovered that the vehicle’s plate number was still registered under the name of the previous owner, suggesting that Adedoyin had not properly transferred ownership of the vehicle.
This raises additional questions about Adedoyin’s actions and whether he was attempting to conceal his identity or evade accountability.
In a new update the X User wrote: “THE CRIMINAL HAS BEEN APPREHENDED and is now in police custody! His name is ABILOMU ADEDOYIN….NOTE: The vehicle was sold to him in 2023 (two years ago) with the plate number still registered to the previous owner.
Another fuel station has also identified the same man, confirming that he had done the same thing there.”
Dr Bosun Tijani, Communications Minister, Innovative and Digital Economy has assured that telecom tariffs will soon increase but not by 100 per cent.
Rising from a stakeholders’ meeting with Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) on Wednesday in Abuja, Tijani said that consultations and engagements were ongoing on the issue.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the MNOs are proposing a 100 per cent increase in tariffs.
According to the minister, very soon the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will approve and make the new tariffs public to Nigerians.
“You have seen over the past weeks that there has been agitation from some of these companies to increase tariffs. They are requesting a 100 per cent tariff increase.
“But it will not be by 100 per cent; the NCC will soon come up with a clear directive on how we will go about it.
“We want to strike the balance as a government, to protect our people, but also protect and ensure that these companies can continue to invest significantly,” he said.
He said that there was a need to ensure that the telecommunication sector gets its acts together to ensure that the right regulations are put in place to ensure the growth of this sector.
The minister also said that the Federal Government would no longer leave investments on infrastructure in the sector to private companies alone.
“As a country, over time, we have left these investments in the hands of the private sector. They typically invest where they can see returns in the short to medium term.
“We will not want this conversation to just be about tariff increase. What the world is talking about today is meaningful connectivity; people want to have access to quality service.
“A part of it that the consumers may not be aware of is the investment that needs to go into the infrastructure that is used to deliver these services,” he said.
The Executive Vice-Chairman (EVC) of the NCC, Dr Aminu Maida, said that the meeting with stakeholders was about the sustainability of the industry.
“We have looked at all of these factors, and that is why, like the minister said, it is not likely that we are going to approve a 100 per cent tariff increase.
“I know that Nigerians are agitated to hear the exact percentage approved.
There are still some stakeholder engagements that we are going through, but you will hear from us within a week or two,” he said.
He said that the NCC had put a number of tools and instruments in place to ensure compliance with service quality.
He urged the MNOs to adopt simplified templates to show Nigerians charges per minute for voice calls, SMS and a megabyte of data.
“We are moving away from the regime where you will have a main rate, then you will now have a bonus which is at a different rate.
“It makes it often complicated and difficult for Nigerians to actually understand what they are being charged for.
There is this agitation that the MNOs are stealing our data,” he said.
The CEO of Airtel Nigeria, Dinesh Balsingh, represented by Femi Adeniran, Airtel media spokesperson, said that the economic realities of rising operational and capital costs necessitated the proposed tariff adjustments.
Balsingh said that for the telecommunications companies to deliver superior connectivity and foster digital inclusion, there is a need for tariff increments.
“The economic realities of rising operational and capital costs necessitated the proposed tariff adjustments.
“This is aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of the sector while unlocking significant benefits for Nigerian consumers,” he said.

A new national air carrier has been confirmed to be established in Nigeria very soon as the Federal government of Nigeria promised.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Abubakar Kana made this announcement during the recent handing-over ceremony at the ministry.
Kana revealed that the creation of a national air carrier is a key priority, and he is committed to seeing it through.
Kana also pledged to overhaul airports across the country, ensuring they meet international standards.
“Resources are scarce; we need to embrace the private sector to support Nigeria’s aviation industry,” he added.
Kana, who previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, underscored the importance of aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” for the aviation sector.

The Oyo State government, on Tuesday, opposed bail applications filed by Naomi Shilekunola, former queen of the Ooni of Ife; CEO of Agidigbo radio station, Hamzat Oriyomi; Islamic High School principal, Fasasi Abdullahi, who are currently in detention over their involvement in a deadly stampede at a Christmas Funfair in Ibadan that claimed the lives of 35 children.
The court, on December 24, had ordered the trio’s remand at the Nigerian Correctional Services facility in Agodi where they spent their Christmas and New Year’s Day celebrations.
During a hearing at the High Court 8, Ring Road, Ibadan, on Tuesday, the defense counsels urged the court to grant bail, but Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, strongly opposed the request.
Aikomo insisted that the applicants had not provided sufficient grounds for their release.
“The bail request of the applicants must not be granted by the court,” Aikomo argued.
He further dismissed claims of persecution by the state government, calling them unfounded.
However, the defense counsels argued that the detention of their clients was unconstitutional, citing procedural errors and questioning the court’s jurisdiction.
They also raised concerns about the “holding charge” used to remand the trio, claiming it was not recognized under Nigeria’s Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
Waheed Olajide, representing the school principal, contended that the detention was unjust. “No formal charge has been preferred against the applicant before any court of competent jurisdiction,” Olajide argued, emphasizing Abdullahi’s deteriorating health and his need for medical attention.
Silekunola’s counsel, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN), also condemned the continued detention, describing it as unconstitutional.
“Anyone can be detained, but it must be in accordance with the law, regardless of the offence committed,” he stated.
“The applicants are being held under a holding charge, which is not recognized in the criminal administration of justice.”
Hazmat Oriyomi’s lawyer, Adekunle Sobaloju (SAN), also argued that the detention violated constitutional rights.

Donald Trump, the United States president-elect has announced his intention to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” citing U.S. contributions to the region’s development and his dissatisfaction with Mexico.
“We’re going to change because we do most of the work there and it’s ours,” Trump said during a wide-ranging press conference on Tuesday.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a public health advisory in response to the recent surge in Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in China and other affected regions.
A press release and the public health advisories signed by the Director General of NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed that the Agency has implemented several measures to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response capacity.
Although there have been no reported cases in Nigeria, the NCDC is taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) is a respiratory virus that can cause illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory infections, particularly in young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has not declared HMPV a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC).
However, recent reports indicate a significant rise in HMPV cases in China, as well as increased respiratory infections linked to HMPV in countries such as the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
“These include conducting a comprehensive risk assessment to inform preparedness efforts and response strategies, issuing a public health advisory to provide Nigerians with up-to-date information on preparedness actions and preventive measures, strengthening surveillance systems to detect and respond to potential cases, and reinforcing infection prevention and control measures in healthcare facilities.”
“To reduce the risk of HMPV infection, the public is advised to follow preventive steps such as washing hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, covering the mouth and nose with a tissue or elbow when coughing or sneezing, maintaining distance from individuals showing symptoms of respiratory illness, and avoiding crowded areas.”
The NCDC urges the public to adhere to these preventive measures and to seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms consistent with HMPV infection.

Arome Odoma, A Kogi-based and human rights activist has issued a pre-action notice to the Kogi State government, challenging its policy requiring students to present their parents’ tax clearance certificates for registration.
The policy, announced in November 2024, mandates that students without a variable tax clearance certificate from their parents will be barred from continuing their education in the state.
Odoma argues that this policy is “repugnant to natural justice, equity, and good conscience” and violates the right to education.
“I read a memo from the office of the Chairman Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue Service dated the 26th of November 2024 mandating institutions of learning not to register any student without a verifiable parent’s tax clearance certificate.
“This policy is not only repugnant to Natural Justice, Equity, and good conscience but also an attempt to deprive the future leaders of their right to education.
“The Chairman of the board should take note that education is not a privilege but a right, it then goes to say that education is legally guaranteed for all without discrimination.
All states including Kogi State have the duty to protect, respect, and fulfill the right of education of their citizens without discrimination.
“This policy is purely incongruous to the people’s right to education, and we will hold the State accountable for violation and deprivation of our people’s right to education.
“How does it concern an innocent child/Student whose duty is not to enforce tax payment to suffer from non-compliance of his parent to pay tax to Kogi State Government. We should also take note that we were once children of nobody before we became somebody.
“Our quest to satisfy the financial urge of the government should not deprive the citizens of their fundamental rights especially that of education which is not freely given.
I have seen some students without parents or guardians struggling to sponsor themselves with hard labor.
Some of our Governors and Senators in Nigeria didn’t grow with parental support but via being determined and focused to achieve education.
“I know the current Governor of Kogi State, the person of Alhaji Usman Ododo, his style of leadership to the best of my knowledge is not in conformity with this obnoxious policy made in violation of people’s right to education and I am of a strong view that the said policy be reversed for the following reasons:

It affects the Internally Generated Revenue (I.G.R.) of the institutions of learning owing to the deprivation of the right to register both as fresh and returning students.
“His Excellency’s Government has not and should not be seen as a government that will pose untold hardship on the people.
I have identified his government to be a friendly government and as such should thread the path of honor by reversing the said policy before the 10th day of January 2025 or I shall humbly take the option of litigation against the government in the protection of the people’s right to education.”
Also, the National Commissioner in Charge of the Right to Education at the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, (NHRC), Sir Agabaidu Jideani, had called on Governor Usman Ododo, to find a policy mix that prioritizes the right to education of children in Kogi State while seeking tax compliance by school children’s parents.
“I appreciate the efforts of the Kogi State Government to ensure tax compliance among its citizens, particularly parents.
“However, I strongly believe that the recent memo issued by the Chairman of the Kogi State Board of Internal Revenue Service, which mandates institutions of learning to refuse registration to students without a verifiable tax clearance certificate from their parents, may inadvertently deny children their right to education, “he insisted.
The Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday said that 129 cases of murder, attempted murder, robbery, rioting and serious harm involving knives were recorded in Singapore as of November 2024.

The Media Centre of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has listed top ten policies by the current administration for Nigerians to watch out for in the year 2025.
In a detailed post shared via X (formerly Twitter), on Monday, January 6, the Centre noted that the policies are aimed at bolstering the nation’s economy, security, and overall welfare.
Recall that the President, on different occasions, has defended his past policies, especially the removal of petrol subsidy which was widely criticized as being responsible for the current hardships Nigerians are facing.
However, Tinubu recently, during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Enugu Government House while on a one-day visit to the state, explained again that the decision to remove the subsidy was necessary, adding that it was to keep the country alive.
Just like his determination to maintain the status quo on petrol subsidy removal, President Tinubu had, during his maiden presidential media chat late last year, disclosed his resolve to ensure the contentious tax reform bills being sponsored by his administration and currently before the National Assembly see the light of the day despite opposition, especially from the Northern part of the country.
While the administration claims the country is going through reforms in some critical sectors, Nigerians are anxious about possible new policies that might be introduced in the New Year.
But before then, here are the top ten policies to watch out for their implementation in 2025:
The National Youth CONFAB is expected to kick off in the first quarter of the new year as the administration seeks to strengthen the synergy between its young population and the leadership.
The Confab is a testament to the administration’s commitment to youth inclusiveness and investment as nation-builders.
The Ministry of Youth is expected to announce, soon, the modalities for selecting the conference’s representatives from across the country.
As reported by Tribune Online, the Renewed Hope administration is expected to launch the National Credit Guarantee Company before the end of the second quarter of 2025.
This company will assist the administration to further consolidate and increase access to credit for individuals and critical sectors of the economy to boost national economic output
The tax reform bills which are currently being debated on the floor of the National Assembly are expected to be passed over the next few months with implementation expected to begin in earnest.
The bills, apart from strengthening Nigeria’s tax collection capacity also aim to fix many basics of the economy which will in turn tackle poverty, inflation, unemployment, and poor revenue as well as strengthen the ease-of-doing business rating of the country.
The Consumer Credit Scheme which is a major initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is expected to be taken to a new level as the general public starts to access the benefits embedded in it.
The first phase of the scheme which has already benefited tens of thousands of civil servants will now be extended to the general public as the administration completes to increase access to consumable goods which will help drive industrialization, reduce corruption and improve the standard of living of the populace.

The Special Agro Processing Zones which is an initiative of the federal government in partnership with the African Development Bank seeks to improve food production on a large scale in the country with six

Northern Nigeria is a major player in the development of livestock and with a new operational framework in place, the sector is expected to contribute significantly to the economic growth of Nigeria, eliminate issues of farmers-herders crisis and reduce poverty in the country.
The new AFRIGO card proposed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is expected to go public within the New Year.
The card which also offers payment solutions will help in improving the financial inclusion situation of the country, provide access to government services and also restore confidence in the identification system of the country.
Plans were said to have been finalized to establish creative villages of arts in each state across Nigeria, named “Renewed Hope Creative Villages”.
The goal was to enhance the creative industry and preserve historic sites.
The initiative would collaborate with state governments to identify historic locations and transform them into creative hubs.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in its reports stated that National Security Adviser (NSA), listed and recognized Malam Nuhu Ribadu; a Nigerian-born British politician and leader of the UK Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch; and Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), among the 100 Most Reputable Africans for 2025.
Reputation Poll International (RPI), in partnership with the Global Reputation Forum (RPF) released the lists which had the names of other notable Nigerians and African leaders.
The list featured men and women from diverse sectors across the continent that had excelled in technology, creative industries, sports, public service, academia and environmental advocacy.
Ribadu’s nomination stemmed from his leadership of the nation’s security apparatus leading to enhanced synergy between the military, other security and intelligence agencies in the country.
He has recently coordinated a series of successful rescues of kidnapped victims in the northern part of the country.

While Enenche and Adeboye have appeared on the list in the past, Dr Daniel Olukoya, founder of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries is appearing for the first time.

Concerned residents of Lagos state have called on government to wade into the situation of incessant power outage and vandalization of electricity in Epe town and restore power supply.
A 30-day online protest have also commenced by calling on Ikeja Disco to act fast and restore electricity to the entire Epe Division.
The residents, in a flier on Sunday, called on Ikeja Disco to do everything possible to restore light to Epe, saying, “Enough of darkness in the entire town.”
Some of the inscriptions on the flier read:” Restore Epe Light, enough is enough, restore the power supply.
“What is life without light?
What is Epe without power supply?”
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the latest was the vandalization of electricity facilities in more than four places in some parts of Epe.
As a result of power outage, business owners have suffered setback in the town despite being the host to many industries, including real estate.
The residents recalled that Epe had not enjoyed electricity in the last 10 years, adding that the matter became worse in the last four months as thieves carted away the high-tension cables conveying electricity to Epe from Ikorodu.
Efforts to reach the Ikeja Disco management proved abortive as its spokesperson, Kingsley Okotie, did not pick up his calls or respond to SMS and WhatsApp messages.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune on Sunday, Mr Tunde Alao, who resides in Epe, confirmed the situation, saying that most residents of Epe have been on generating sets in the last six months.
Perpetual power outage, he said had made life unbearable for residents due to the nefarious activities of cable thieves.
Another resident, Kunle Oladeinde, lamented incessant power outage in Epe, pointed out that in the last eight years, Epe Division had not enjoyed constant power supply.
He said that in the last four months, the town’s high tension/ cables were stolen, adding that it happened four times in four months.
“Every time and then, our high tension and cables are being stolen in Epe. In the last four months, it has happened four times.
“In November, when our electricity cables were vandalized, former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode replaced them. Another cable was stolen in Iredo.”
Oladeinde called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the senator, House of Representatives and House of Assembly members representing Epe Division to do something about the electricity blackout in Epe.
He also enjoined all the Obas in Epe to wade into the situation, while calling on the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to investigate cable/power theft in Epe and bring perpetrators to book.
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria linked reasons for the upsurge in the price of onions that leads to scarcity of the produce in the country.
Mr Aliyu Isah, the national president of the association who stated the reasons in an interview, on Sunday, in Lagos.
According to him, Nigeria witnessed a soaring rise in the price of onions from the fourth quarter of 2024 with a bag selling between N250,000 and N270,000 as against N70,000 and N90,000 per bag in previous months.
A medium-size bulb of the produce sells at N500 as against N50 per bulb.
Isah told NAN that the reasons for the hike in onion price were multifaceted, leading to low production of the produce.
“What caused the scarcity and high cost of onions from the last quarter of 2024 till now is as a result of flooding.
“The flooding of 2024 that ravaged all our onion farms, from the producing bed of Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, up to Adamawa States resulted in the scarcity of the produce.
“We also had the problem affecting onion production with the release of water from dams from the northern states.
“In Sokoto, the water was released from Goroyo Dam; when it got to a certain level, it affected the onion beds from Sokoto, Kebbi and up to Zamfara states.
“Also, we had the breakage of dams in Borno State, which destroyed our onion farmlands,” Aliyu said.
He also blamed climate change effects resulting in extended rainfall and disease outbreak on onion farms as another reason for the price surge.
“The second issue affecting the scarcity and the high cost of onions is that we experienced an extended and high level of rainfall up North in 2024.
“So, the high amount of rainfall resulted in high humidity which resulted in disease outbreak popularly called Downy Mildew, which destroyed most of our onion farms at various stages of cultivation.
“Some onion farms were affected at seedling stage, some at nursery stage, some when we were even about to harvest the onion,” the association president said.
He added that the unavailability of the produce due to lack of improved onion seedlings contributed to the development.
“The third is the issue of unavailability of the produce due to lack of improved onion seedlings.
“The factors of flooding and climate change have affected and disrupted our local seed production system.
“We do not have sufficient and quality onion seedlings, so we now rely on hybrid seed that we import from foreign countries.”
“The issue of flooding really affected onion seed production so local farmers could not get enough seed to buy.
This situation also resulted in the unavailability of onions. From the fourth quarter of 2024, and our farmers with their money, they could not see seed to buy.
“This also culminated to a serious problem where some unpatriotic Nigeria imported adulterated onion seed into the country and now our farmers are counting their losses because they planted a seed that cannot produce a bulb,” he said.
Aliyu lamented that lack of storage facilities and technology of the produce at harvests contributed to the surge in its price.

A New York judge has set the sentencing date for President-elect Donald Trump’s hush money case just ten days before his January 20 inauguration.
Judge Juan Merchan announced on Friday that Trump, the first former U.S. president ever convicted of a crime, could appear either in person or virtually at his January 10 sentencing.
Merchan indicated that he was unlikely to impose jail time, leaning instead towards an unconditional discharge.
“It seems proper at this juncture to make known the Court’s inclination to not impose any sentence of incarceration,” Merchan stated, adding that prosecutors also did not see a jail term as a “practicable recommendation.”
Trump was convicted in May on 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
The payment, made during his 2016 presidential campaign, was intended to prevent Daniels from disclosing an alleged affair with Trump in 2006.
In his 18-page decision, Merchan rejected several motions from Trump’s lawyers to overturn the conviction, including arguments invoking the Supreme Court’s decision last year granting broad immunity to former presidents for official acts carried out in office.
While the judge dismissed this argument, he acknowledged that Trump would regain immunity upon taking the presidential oath.
“Finding no legal impediment to sentencing and recognizing that Presidential immunity will likely attach once Defendant takes his Oath of Office, it is incumbent upon this Court to set this matter down for imposition of sentence prior to January 20, 2025,” Merchan said…

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye has broken his silence on the AI-generated image circulating on social media, depicting him as an Alhaji.
Speaking during the first Holy Ghost Night of the new year, Adeboye addressed the image with a wry smile, saying, “I’m sure many of you saw that picture showing me as an Alhaji”.

In other to make it easier for migrants, Germany has introduced a new online portal this January to make it easier for people from around the world to apply for entry visas.
For visitors from countries without a visa waiver agreement with Germany, getting an entry permit is a necessary step before traveling to the country.
In the past, applicants had to complete lengthy paper forms and send them to the nearest German embassy or consulate, which could be far away—sometimes hundreds of kilometers.
They also had to include physical documents and deal with long waiting times and high postage costs.
Now, as of January 1, 2025, a digital system called the Consular Services Portal has been launched.
It allows people to apply online for 28 different types of visas, including those for tourists, students, family members, and skilled workers, from anywhere with an internet connection.
The German Federal Foreign Affairs Office (BAA) said the portal has been in development for over two years.
After testing it in three locations, the system is now available at 167 embassies and consulates worldwide.
By digitizing the visa process, the government hopes to speed up applications and attract more skilled workers to Germany.
Welcoming the portal, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock highlighted the urgent need for skilled workers.
“In these times, we cannot afford to discourage the best people from working in our country with long paper applications and even longer waiting times.
“We need a state-of-the-art national visa procedure—modern, digital, and secure,” she said.
She also called the new system a “genuine administrative revolution” and emphasized its role in strengthening Germany’s position as a business hub.
The launch of the visa portal builds on earlier efforts to digitize residence permit and citizenship applications in regions like Berlin, Hamburg, and Bavaria.
In Berlin, for instance, online naturalization applications became available in early 2024, with residence permit and renewal applications added later in the year.
Currently, the portal only supports individual applications, so family members still need to apply at local German consulates.
However, the government plans to expand the system to allow group applications for families and authorized representatives in the future.
Outgoing Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command and newly promoted Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Mohammed Bala Mustapha, Thursday officially handed over the mantle of leadership to CP Olubenga Adewale Adepoju, as the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.
Speaking during a brief handover ceremony at the Police Officers’ Mess in Port Harcourt, AIG Bala Mustapha, who was deployed to Zone 6 Command Headquarters Calabar, thanked the officers and men of the Rivers State Police Command as well as residents of the state for their support and cooperation during his three months in charge as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.
AIG Bala, who spent 3 months as the Rivers Police boss, said the command recorded several achievements during the period, in crime fighting, peacekeeping, human and infrastructural developments in the state.
Some of the notable feats include the rescue of underaged pregnant girls from a baby factory.
He added that as a commissioner of police, he ensured that the state remained calm and peaceful, adding that through his marching orders, operatives of the command were able to tame the criminal elements that could have brought unrest in the state.
Bala revealed that on resumption of duty, he held briefings with the Command’s Management Team, Area Commanders, and Tactical Team Commanders, who he said adhered to his advice and exhibited a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
While commending his gallant police officers for their tactical efforts in policing Rivers State, the AIG noted that with the support of other security agencies and the media, the state has relative peace despite the political crisis.
He congratulated his successor, CP Olubenga Adepoju, who was the Deputy Commissioner of Police working with him while he was in charge in the state, saying that he had a peaceful stay in Rivers and was leaving in peace.
He urged officers of the command, Rivers people, and the media to give the new CP, Adepoju, all the necessary support to enable him to succeed in policing Rivers State.
In his response, the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, thanked his predecessor, AIG Mustapha Bala, for his fatherly disposition and invaluable counsel and guidance during his stay.

Not less than ten Compressed Natural Gas buses has been released by the Federal Government of Nigeria to the Nigerian Labour Congress in the South-west zone to ease transportation challenges.
Comrade Kayode Martins, the chairman of the Union, Oyo state chapter revealed this at a press briefing in Ibadan.
Martins stated that the delivery of the buses would be taken by the Union on Friday at the State Secretariat of the party in Ibadan.
He added that the government’s gesture is aimed at ameliorating the transportation problem in the region.
The Chairman assured the Federal Government that the buses would serve the purpose they are meant for.
According to him, the buses will be strategically deployed to some areas in the state while the charges will be moderate.
On the unveiling event, Martins disclosed that the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, will be leading other dignitaries, including the Executive Council of the NLC at the national and state levels, the leadership of the affiliate bodies, traditional rulers, captains of industry, and a host of others.
In another development, the Central Working Committee of the Union will be meeting in Ibadan on Friday.
The chairman stated that the meeting became imperative for adequate preparation for the event.

The Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s effort has been praised by the leadership of the Arewa Youths Coalition for Peace and Political Development and the Northern Elders Progressive group towards sustaining the fight against insecurity challenges bedeviling some parts of the northern region, particularly the Northwest zone.
This was the position of the groups at the end of their 8th joint meeting held in Kaduna on Thursday.
Reading from the seven-point communiqué, the convener of the joint meeting, Hon Yusuf Abubakar, flanked by Yasir Ramadan Kano, representative of the youth group, and Mustafa Aliyu Dutsin-Ma, representative of the Elders Group, said, “It is time for our political leaders, elites, and those in authority who are of northern extraction to come together and bring lasting solutions to the numerous challenges facing the region.
“Unarguably, the development has retarded our collective progress, unity, cohesion, and development, because unity, peace, and development of our dear North must be non-negotiable and sacrosanct to ensure cohesion and political understanding amongst all Nigerians.
“There must be a way to bring all our political leaders together, united and committed to the development in the best possible way of going against hatred, mudslinging, and mischief that’s destroying our collective interest of one nation, particularly the North.”
The groups also called for the region to confront issues like disunity, insecurity, and economic challenges and come together by putting politics, religious, and ethnic differences aside.
“It is very painful that some of our clerics have discarded the moral character of teaching and abandoned the exemplary wisdom of preaching the truth by becoming more like entertainers in discussing matters affecting political unity, security, and the survival of the country without recourse to reality.
“We want to appeal to our revered clerics to stop creating unnecessary tension as a result of their unguarded utterances, which are capable of inciting and destroying the peace of others.
“They should rather allow professionals to speak on issues they know little or nothing about just because they have the platform.
We have keenly observed that the majority of them are becoming tools of propaganda and mischief, using vulgar language in their Sunday and Friday sermons.
“It is disheartening that many clerics who cannot afford to travel outside their domains are becoming so desperate to circulate misinformation or lies against particular issues of security, politics, and social life affecting others outside.
“They were intentionally misled or coerced into believing mischievous posts on social media aimed at destroying others intentionally with political motivation, without investigations or finding time to verify the authenticity or reality of the truths about them.
“We also reject in totality the recent allegations made by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, Military Head of Niger Republic, against Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of conniving with France to destabilize his country.
“We see such unguarded utterances as irresponsible, lacking decorum, and unpresidential. These are baseless allegations capable of overheating the politics in our country.
Our stance on this saga is total support and endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, especially with his giant strides of positive development, ensuring political unity, security, and restoration of peace in our troubled zone, i.e., the North.
“We call on the President of the Niger Republic to tender an immediate apology to Nigeria and stop creating the tension of disunity between the two brotherly nations that have a common historical understanding, unity, and regard for each other decades ago.
“We want to caution some groups hiding under ulterior motives to refrain from fanning embers of hatred, considering its consequences for our collective survival as a people and nation in general.
We must be patriotic and responsible on issues affecting our national growth, unity, and respect.
“It is germane to commend Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser to President Tinubu, on his ceaseless efforts towards ensuring security and peace across the country, particularly in our region, through kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
“These have led to improved stability and security in some of the deserted areas, due to constant attacks and insecurity challenges.
However, we urge Mallam Ribadu to use his good office and bring an end to bandit kingpin Bello Turji’s nefarious reign of terror in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina states, respectively.”
