A photo of a serial shooter who tried to murder American presidential aspirant, Donald Trump was seen appearing calm and composed while handcuffed in the back of a police car.
Thomas Matthew Crooks photo emerged online following his capture by authorities in Florida on the afternoon of Sunday, September 15.
The photo obtained by Fox News showed the 58-year-old suspect in a t-shirt and dark pants with his hands cuffed behind his back after he allegedly brought an AK-47-style rifle along to assassinate Trump at a rally in Pennysylvania.
He appeared unfazed in the image, which backs up what Martin County Sheriff William Snyder said about the Routh’s behaviour during a press conference.
Snyder said Routh was “relatively calm” during the detainment.
“Was not displaying a lot of emotion,” he told WPLG. “Never asked ‘what is this about?’ Obviously law enforcement with long rifles, blue lights, lots going on — never questioned it.”
Sheriff deputies took Routh into custody on Interstate 95 after Secret Service agents spotted the muzzle of a gun in shrubbery that lined the course as the former president golfed a few holes behind.
An agent fired at the suspect before he fled in an SUV, authorities said.
Routh has a long criminal history, though his son reportedly said later Sunday he doesn’t think his father is violent.
He was convicted in 2022 of possessing a weapon of mass destruction.
On social media, the suspected wanna-be assassin blasted Trump as a threat to democracy.
No charges have been filed yet in the case.
Routh’s alleged assassination is the second attempt on the Republican presidential nominee’s life in just three months.
Trump was grazed by a bullet in July during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania after Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at him from a nearby rooftop. Crooks, 20, was killed by the Secret Service during the mayhem.
Rosie, a fluffy tortoiseshell, died this week in the hallway of her home in Norwich, Norfolk, with her devoted owner, 73-year-old Lila Brissett, by her side.
Born in 1991, Rosie was the unofficial titleholder of “world’s oldest cat,” surpassing the current record holder, Flossie, a 28-year-old cat from Kent, born in 1995.
Rosie turned 33 on June 1 this year and died at the equivalent age of 152 in human years.
Heartbroken Lila, who adopted Rosie as a kitten, said:-
“I miss her so much.
She wasn’t very well and one day she just walked into the hallway of the house, laid down and passed away.”
“There were lots of good memories though and I’m happy we had our time together.”
Lila had been approached by a cat rescue in the 90s with Rosie as a kitten, who needed rehoming after her first household realised their daughter was allergic.
Lila, who is widowed, happily welcomed Rosie into her home.
As Rosie aged, Lilia expressed her fears about her imminent death.
“I often have to check if she’s still alive and breathing.
I’m worried about the day she crosses over the rainbow bridge.
She’ll leave a big void,” Lila said.
“I’ll miss her when she goes. But I’ll never have her put down.”
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest cat alive currently on record is 27.
Not less than eight people have been confirmed dead after a seven-storey building collapsed in Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, on Monday.
Rescue teams are continuing to search for survivors as several individuals remain trapped beneath the rubble.
The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) reported that six people have been rescued so far from the site on Shell New Road.
NDMA also revealed that some of those trapped have been able to communicate their locations to rescuers. Among the victims are two girls and a boy, all under the age of five.
The building, which housed both residential and commercial units, collapsed between 11:00 and 12:00 local time on Monday.
Two cranes have been deployed to aid the rescue efforts, though earlier attempts to clear the debris were made using picks and bare hands.
Popular filmmaker Femi Ogedengbe confirmed the passage of his colleague, veteran Nollywood actor, Emmanuel France via his Instagram page on Monday.
Expressing sadness over his demise, Ogedengbe, recalled their fond memories together.
He wrote:
“Rest in peace to one of Nollywood’s legends, Uncle Emmanuel France.
One of the actors I took to Tanzania in 2006. We shot three movies together: She Is My Sister, The Director and Cross My Sin R.I.P.”
The cause of his death remains undisclosed as of the time of this report.
France’s demise came just a few hours after the death of Nollywood actor Big Larry.
Nollywood has lost dozens of practitioners since January 2024, including Mr Ibu, Junior Pope, Sisi Quadri, Ganiyu ‘Ogunjimi‘ Oyeyemi and Amaechi Muonagor, among others.
Femi Falana has strongly condemned the recent hike in school fees by the Federal and Lagos State governments, describing it as illegal.
The federal government had in July 2023 increased fees for Unity Schools from N45,000 to N100,000 per term, an increase of over 120 percent.
In the same vein, the Lagos State Government, during the weekend announced N100,000 as the new fee for the state-owned boarding schools which was previously N35,000.
Reacting, Falana described it as a violation of the Child’s Rights Law.
He lamented that with the increase being above the Minimum Wage of N70,000, a worker could no longer sponsor even one child either in Unity School or any secondary school in Lagos State.
The senior lawyer, however, vowed to challenge the decision in the appropriate High Court.
“The federal government has increased the fee payable in all unity schools from N45,000 to N100,000 per term.
Thus, the fee payable per annum is N300,000 per student.
“Similarly, the Lagos State Government has fixed fees payable in all secondary schools at N100,000 per term or N300,000 per annum by every student.
“At N70,000 minimum wage, the salary of a worker per term of four months is N28,000. The implication is that a worker can no longer sponsor even one child either in the unity school or any secondary school in Lagos State.
“However, under the Child’s Rights Act and Lagos State Child’s Rights Law, every child is entitled to free and compulsory education from primary to junior secondary school. To that extent, the imposition of N100,000 fees on students in junior secondary schools in Unity Schools and Secondary schools in Lagos is illegal.
“Given the clear provisions of the Child’s Rights Laws applicable in all the states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, the illegal imposition of prohibitive fees on junior secondary school students will be challenged in the appropriate High Court,” he argued.
The apex bank in Nigeria, Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has affirmed that it will sustain its Ways and Means Advances to the federal government at a 5 per cent limit for the fiscal years 2024-2025.
This is contrary to a bill passed by the National Assembly which raised the maximum borrowing percentage in the Act from five per cent to ten per cent.
This information is based on the Monetary, Credit, Foreign Trade, and Exchange Policy Guidelines for the Fiscal Years 2024-2025, published by the CBN on Tuesday.
The guideline is in line with the MTFF, under which the apex Bank will manage expectations, implement time-consistent policies, address shocks to support the ongoing recovery, and ensure the country’s macroeconomic stability.
The document reads:
“Ways and Means Advances shall continue to be available to the Federal Government to finance deficits in its budgetary operations to a maximum of 5.0 per cent of the previous year’s actual collected revenue.
Such advances shall be liquidated as soon as possible and shall in any event be repayable at the end of the year in which it was granted.”
“Consistent with the banking arrangement of Treasury Single Account, Ways and Means Advances would now be determined after recognising the sub-accounts of the various MDAs, which are now linked to the Consolidated Revenue Fund to arrive at the FGN consolidated cash position.
This would continue in the 2024/2025 fiscal years.”
Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, has expressed great displeasure over the condition of roads in the country.
Obi said his heart kept bleeding, wondering how the nation allowed itself to descend so low to a situation where the people and the leaders no longer care.
Obi, who said he encountered over a dozen accidents along the way, lamented how his recent journey from Ekpoma to Benin, both in Edo State, that used to take about two hours was made much longer because of poor road conditions.
Taking to his X handle on Monday, while disclosing his itinerary over the weekend.
Obi said:
“On Saturday, I travelled for six and a half hours from Onitsha to Igarra, Akoko-Edo by road, to join our Labour Party governorship candidate for Edo State, Barrister Olumide Akpata, and continued our campaign through Jattu-Uzairue and Auchi.
“On leaving Auchi around 6 PM, but due to the bad roads, it took us about an hour and a half to reach Ekpoma, where enthusiastic Obidients had been waiting all day.
“From Ekpoma, it took us about 3 hours to drive to Benin. I must express my sadness because the total journey used to take about 2 hours, but the poor road conditions made it much longer.
“We encountered over a dozen accidents along the way, and my heart kept bleeding, wondering how we have allowed ourselves to descend so low to a situation where we, the leaders no longer care.”
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has disclosed a new fuel pump price, according to the refined petroleum products supplied by the Dangote Refinery.
This is coming after Dangote Refinery, denied fuel sales at N898 per litre following the first batch of refined fuel to the domestic market.
According to the NNPC, the new pump price is part of a strategic pricing formula aimed at reflecting the cost of production at the Dangote Refinery, alongside global oil market trends and logistics costs.
NNPC further explained that the pricing mechanism is designed to ensure sustainability in the fuel supply chain while minimizing the impact of price changes on Nigerian consumers.
The statement reads:
“NNPC Ltd Releases Estimated Pump Prices of PMS from Dangote Refinery, Based on September 2024 Pricing
The NNPC Ltd has released estimated prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as Petrol (obtained from the Dangote Refinery) in its retail stations across the country.
The NNPC Ltd also wishes to state that, in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), PMS prices are not set by GOVERNMENT BUT negotiated directly between parties on an arms length.
The NNPC Ltd can confirm that it is paying Dangote Refinery in USD for September 2024 PMS offtake, as Naira transactions will only commence on October 1st, 2024.
The NNPC Ltd assures that if the quoted pricing is disputed, it will be grateful for any discount from the Dangote Refinery, which will be passed on 100% to the general public.
Attached to this statement are the estimated pump prices of PMS (obtained from the Dangote Refinery) across NNPC Retail Stations in the country, based on September 2024 pricing.
The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has sealed a fast-food restaurant owned by Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chiefpriest, Donald’s Fast Food, located on Adebayo Doherty Street, Lekki 1, due to persistent noise pollution and other environmental violations.
This was made known by the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab, on X.com on Sunday.
According to Wahab, the agency took the action after issuing several warnings and abatement notices to the establishment, which failed to comply with environmental regulations.
The statement said,
“After several warnings and abatement notices, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency #LasepaOfficial sealed Donald’s Fast Food on Adebayo Doherty Street, Lekki 1 over noise pollution and other environmental infractions.”

According to Alake, the Presidency made the rice available for distribution through ministers, supplementing existing channels such as state governments and civic organizations.

“The focus is on reaching out to our aged fathers and mothers, who lack the strength to access welfare goods at established centers,” Alake said.

A cholera outbreak in Adamawa State has claimed the lives of four individuals, with an additional 36 people currently receiving medical attention in various hospitals.
Chairman of Yola-North Local Government Area, Mr. Jibrin Ibrahim, disclosed this information during a visit to the affected patients at the Infectious Disease Centre in Yola on Sunday.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Frank Mba announced that police orderlies and VIP protection details will be withdrawn 48 hours prior to the Edo State governorship election.
Only the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy will retain their personal security details during the election.
Mba made this statement at the Edo Security Town Hall meeting on Sunday.

Tragedy struck in Masaka, Nasarawa State, as 38-year-old Gabriel Iliya Magaji was found dead in a classroom at Crystal School, where his body was discovered hanging on Monday morning.
According to the Nasarawa State Police, Magaji’s death is believed to be a result of suicide, prompted by the alleged infidelity of his wife, who was said to have been engaging in extramarital affairs with his friends in exchange for money.
DSP Nansel Ramhan, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway, despite no suicide note being found.
A source close to the family revealed that Magaji had confronted his wife about the allegations, which she reportedly admitted to, claiming the money was used to support their family, including their three children.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Oyo State has apprehended five individuals suspected of engaging in illegal mining activities.
According to the state’s NSCDC Commandant, Augustine Padonu, the suspects were caught with approximately 60 tonnes of lithium powder loaded onto two trucks at the Ibadan Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The minerals were allegedly extracted from Ilenla in Kishi, Oyo State, and were destined for sale in Ogun State without the required licenses and documentation for mining, processing, and transportation.
The suspects will face charges in court following the completion of investigations. Commandant Padonu reiterated the NSCDC’s dedication to eradicating criminal activities in Oyo State and encouraged the public to continue providing valuable information to support the maintenance of law and order.
The United Kingdom (UK) Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has charged Olumide Osunkoya, a 45-year-old London resident, for allegedly operating an unregistered network of cryptocurrency automated teller machines (ATMs).
Similar to a bank ATM, crypto ATMs are machines that allow users to exchange standard money for cryptocurrency.
Crypto ATMs connect to a cryptocurrency exchange and convert deposited cash into crypto, with transactions processed on the blockchain, which is a digital ledger of financial transactions for cryptocurrency.
On Tuesday, FCA said Osunkoya was being charged with two offences under money laundering and terrorist financing regulations.
FCA said the charges against Osunkoya are the first criminal prosecution for such activity.
According to the authority, the offences, are related to fake documents “created and used” for his activities, and one offence of possession of criminal property “relating to the suspected proceeds of his crypto ATM business”.
The machines run by Osunkoya, the FCA said, processed £2.6 million worth of crypto transactions across multiple locations between December 2021 and September 2023.
FCA said Osunkoya had been the director of Gidiplus Ltd before acting independently, while the application to register the company was rejected in 2021.
Osunkoya is expected to appear at Westminster magistrates’ court at the end of the month.
A former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Dennis Amachree, says labour leader, Joe Ajaero is not supposed to leave the country because he is under investigation for alleged terrorism financing and related offences.
Amachree stated this on Tuesday on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, saying Ajaero should remain in Nigeria until investigations were over.
According to him, the person of Ajaero is different from the office of the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) which he currently occupies, adding that he is being investigated on a personal note and not as NLC boss.
The former DSS Assistant Director said Ajaero must have been on the watch list of security agencies for him to be stopped and picked up at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Monday morning.
“There is an ongoing investigation; he (Ajaero) cannot leave the country,” Amachree said, adding, “let him remain in the country whilst investigations are going on.
“For terrorism financing which he (Ajaero) has been accused of, and which is under investigation, he cannot leave the country. Even if he is leaving the country, where is he going?
“Remember, the main man (Andrew Wynne) that was suspected of financing terrorism is his tenant and I don’t think Ajaero is going to go to London without talking to that person because he is in London running his mouth.”
