The Rivers State Government has assumed responsibility for prosecuting the murder case involving Damian Okoligwe, a 400-level student in the Department of Petrochemical Engineering at the University of Port Harcourt.

Okoligwe stands accused of the murder of his girlfriend, Justina Otuene, a 300-level Biochemistry student at the same university, an incident that occurred in 2023.

Following the suspect’s arraignment by the Rivers State Police Command, the Office of the Attorney General of Rivers State filed charges against Okoligwe in the State High Court, based on advice from the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP.

During the recent court session on Tuesday, neither the defendant, Okoligwe, nor his legal representative were present.

Presiding Judge Justice C. A. Nsirim adjourned the case to Tuesday, April 23, 2024, and ordered that the suspect be brought to court to enter his plea on the specified date.
