The International Organization for Migration (IOM) revealed that over 1,000 Nigerians fell victim to misleading job offers in the United Kingdom (UK).
Laurent De Boeck, IOM’s Chief of Mission, disclosed this during a press conference in Abuja.
He highlighted that many victims incurred significant financial losses, with some losing as much as $10,000 each in pursuit of these supposed job opportunities abroad.
De Boeck explained that the victims received fraudulent employment letters that helped them obtain visas for the UK.
However, the organizations in the UK did not recognize these falsified letters, leaving the individuals deceived and without actual employment prospects.

“There are some of them who lost over $10,000 only to be given fake employment letters, which allowed them to get visas.”
“They get there, present the letters, and the organisations tell them that the letters did not emanate from the organisations.
Over a thousand people are affected”
